the film 'the artist' (click to watch trailer) looks like a fun, entertaining film from director michel hazanavicius. love the true to genre outfits, hairstyles and even the requisite 'man's best friend'...the canine cameo.

CANNES FILM FESTIVAL TRES CHIC

cannes film festival is in full swing and there are definitely movies i'm looking forward to seeing. terrence malick's 'the tree of life' being one of them. i'm also interested in seeing 'the artist' which is a throwback to silent films and romance and fun and sweetness. watch the trailer here....all those beautiful images with a grand musical score makes me want to run out and see it! here are photos of a few of favorite ensembles this year. lots of flowing dresses, nude colors and shorts! i'm loving the shorts with blazers and dasha's red chiffon dress....whoo hooo summer! xoxo, am  photos

MY FRIEND ANNIE

my dear friend annie jacobsen, one of the smartest gals i know, one of the smartest persons i know, has been writing a book. and now, after much hard work and diligent fact-checking and a fabulously interesting story.....her book is published. were it that easy! it's a challenge and a task to get good work done and out in the world and annie is one of those people who, when you listen to her talk about anything at all, but especially her work, you feel as though everything is possible. if you enjoy conspiracy theories or ufo legend & lore, or area 51 history or classified government information now declassified, or simply great, truthful storytelling.....you must read annie's book! it comes out this week, so order from here: area51thebook.com

SURFER GIRLS

 

 

 

it's summertime almost and the water has been cold but lovely and surfable(if that's a word). i am getting a new wetsuit that will keep my body warmer than my old one, but you can see from the snapshot i took at the top, any old wetsuit will do. if you haven't tried surfing now is the time! take a surf lesson this summer! don't be intimidated, just borrow or rent a 7 foot foam board and walk yourself into the ocean. sit on the board and the waves will do the rest. as the waves take you towards shore, sit on your knees or if you feel confident with your balance, stand up with your strongest foot forward and bend your knees. stick out your hands out and hang ten! it really is that simple.

MY BAD. OR IF YOU'RE FIVE YEARS OLD, MY BAE

we went camping this weekend and thought we'd have good surf...but alas...it was FREEZing! my hubby and i and the dog huddled together in our tent as the rest of our friends stayed warm in their wood-paneled, old-school campers. i got a manicure and pedicure beforehand thinking i'd be in flip flops all weekend, but no, i was in my clarks and northface jacket the whole time. also, my sandals and suede clarks have been with me for 12 years! before i became vegan. i hope all the mother's out there and all those who mother others, had a great weekend. blessings xo, am

DR ROMANELLI, THE US ARMY AND FLOTATION DEVICES

 

i love recycled clothes! i love vintage clothes. i buy a lot of vintage from a local store in encinitas called flashbacks. but this guy...this guy....dr. romanelli is the bomb. he's been around for a while in LA and does the most amazing things with recycled materials: jackets, coats, vests...lions and tigers and bears! and even though i live in southern california, i tend to wear a lot of vests and coats. i would wear ANY of these with jeans, skirts, shorts, leggings, even an evening gown. he also does cool stuff with flannels, and old sweaters, painted jackets, patchwork bags, camp attire. basically he's a vintage repurposing artist/genius. also, check out more photos on bo bushnell's blog. just found him when i was looking at dr. romanelli's newest creations.
